Mini reviews of new movies from a family perspective
'STEP BROTHERS'
Rating: R for crude and sexual content, vile language.
What it's about: Two obnoxious slacker, live-with-their-parents 40-year-olds must come to terms with being stepbrothers when their parents marry.
The kid-attractor factor: Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly and lots of naughty language.
Good lessons/bad lessons: Sooner or later, even the most understanding, doting parent must kick junior out of the nest.
Violence: Slapstick slap fights and goofball wrestling.
Language: Nothing you won't hear in a high school lunchroom — just filthy, and funny.
Sex: Sort of.
Drugs: None.
Parents' advisory: If you're not afraid of the language, this could be a teaching opportunity for "Why I'm kicking you out when you're 18" lessons.
'MAMMA MIA!'
Rating: PG-13 for sex-related comments.
What it's about: A young woman about to marry wants to know who her biological father is, so she invites mom's ex-lovers to her Greek wedding.
The kid attractor factor: If they like "High School Musical," they might like this musical.
Good lessons/bad lessons: Beware your youthful passions. Sometimes they come back to haunt you.
Violence: None.
Language: Pretty mild.
Sex: Discussed, hinted at, joked about.
Drugs: Alcohol is consumed.
Parents' advisory: Mother-daughter bonding musical — fine for ABBA fans age 12 and older.
