Police arrest driver who fled officer in parking lot

Advertiser Staff

Police yesterday arrested a 59-year-old Kailua woman woman on suspicion of trying to run over a police officer in the parking lot of a Nu'uanu church Monday night.

Ellen M. Endo, 59, was arrested at 9:25 a.m. yesterday at her Humu'ula Street home. She was booked for investigation of first-degree attempted murder.

Police said a 40-year-old undercover officer and her partner saw a vehicle in the lot about 9 p.m. Monday and that the woman driving the car appeared to be engaged in a drug transaction.

One of the officers approached the driver's side of the car, announced that she was a police officer and showed her badge.

Police said the driver put the car in reverse and the officer began walking toward the parking lot entrance.

The car lurched twice at the officer, coming within three feet of her the second time, police said.

The officer drew her gun, but the car left the parking lot via a second exit, police said.

Both officers were able to get the license number.
