Pitching put Punahou and Baldwin into Saturday's state high school baseball championship.

Right-hander Alaka'i Aglipay shut out Mid-Pacific until the seventh and final inning to lift the six-time defending state champion Punahou Buffanblus to a 4-1 victory in Friday's semifinal of the Wally Yonamine Foundation Baseball tournament at Iron Maehara Stadium in Wailuku, Maui.

In the opening semifinal, left-hander Chase Tokunaga was steady in lifting the host Baldwin Bears to a 5-2 victory over Saint Louis.

Saint Louis was the Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion and Mid-Pacific was its runner-up.

Punahou had to rally to beat Kamehameha to earn a berth into the state tournament.

Now, it is in position to win its seventh in a row.

Aglipay, one of the standouts on the West Oahu Little League championship team, dodged trouble in his victory.

He got out of a bases-loaded situation in the first and escaped another inning after Mid-Pacific got runners on second and third with no out.

He allowed a run-scoring single in the seventh before inducing a groundout to end the game.
