Moderate quakes rumble near Guam

Associated Press

HAGATNA, Guam — Three earthquakes shook near the U.S. territory of Guam Friday, but authorities say there were no immediate reports of any damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey says a 5.3-magnitude temblor hit at 2:31 p.m. and was centered in the Pacific Ocean about 40 miles southeast of Hagatna.

Two 4.8-magnitude quakes followed: one at 3:45 p.m. and centered about 60 miles south of the capital, and another at 4:03 p.m. centered 30 miles from Hagatna.

The first two quakes hit about 28 miles beneath the seabed, while the last quake was 76 miles down, the USGS said.

Guam Police dispatch says an officer reported feeling minor shaking, but there were no immediate reports of damage.
