MIAMI — Unbeaten Barry Zito notched another win. Brian Wilson earned a shaky save. Sergio Romo happily settled for a high-five from Zito.

The San Francisco Giants escaped bases-loaded jams in the final two innings last night to turn back the Florida Marlins, 3-2.

Zito, off to the best start in his career, improved to 5-0 in six starts. He took a 3-0 lead into the eighth inning before requiring rescue from the bullpen.

Romo, who gave up a three-run homer in the Giants' 12-inning win Tuesday, rebounded by needing only six pitches to escape a bases-loaded, none-out situation in the eighth.

When Romo reached the jubilant dugout, Zito was among those offering congratulations.

"He was happy for me, especially with what happened Tuesday night," Romo said, his voice cracking with emotion. "It's pretty hard to bounce back. It was his way of showing me, 'You're a guy we do count on.' "

Wilson gave up a run in the ninth but left runners stranded at the corners for his fifth save in six chances. The narrow escape was a welcome change for the Giants, who improved to 2-5 in one-run games.

"We couldn't have been in tougher jams," manager Bruce Bochy said. "We've lost some gut-wrenching games. You hope they even out, and now we got a couple back here."

Aaron Rowand hit his third home run of the season and his second in two nights for the Giants.

Nate Robertson (2-3) lost his third decision in a row. He allowed three runs, two earned, in 5 1/3 innings.

REDS 5, METS 4

Orlando Cabrera led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a home run just inside the left-field foul pole off Pedro Feliciano (1-1), sending Cincinnati over New York. The Reds took 2 of 3 in the series where 11 home runs were hit — all solo shots.

PHILLIES 4, CARDINALS 0

Kyle Kendrick (1-1) allowed six hits in seven innings, Placido Polanco hit a two-run homer and Maui's Shane Victorino added a solo shot to lead host Philadelphia past St. Louis. Danys Baez and Jose Contreras each tossed a perfect inning to complete the six-hitter.

PIRATES 4, CUBS 2

Charlie Morton (1-5) gave two runs and five hits in six-plus innings, Ryan Church homered for the second consecutive game, and Garrett Jones had two hits and drove in two runs as host Pittsburgh beat Chicago to improve to 9-1 in games decided by two runs or less.

BRAVES 7, NATIONALS 6

Matt Diaz hit a tiebreaking single in the top of the 10th inning and Billy Wagner got three outs for his third save in four tries, helping Atlanta beat Washington to snap an eight-game road losing skid.

ASTROS 4, DIAMONDBACKS 2

Carlos Lee hit his first homer of the season, a two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth inning that propelled Houston over Arizona to end an eight-game losing streak. The home run came in his 100th at-bat of the season.

BREWERS 11, DODGERS 3

Doug Davis (1-3) allowed seven hits and three runs in 5 1/3 innings to win his first game of the season, Prince Fielder keyed a four-run first inning with a two-run single and Casey McGehee had a two-run single in a five-run eighth to lead visiting Milwaukee past Los Angeles.

ROCKIES 6, PADRES 5

Ian Stewart hit an opposite-field home run to left-center leading off the top of the 12th inning and Manny Corpas (1-1) pitched the final 2 2/3 innings to help Colorado take two of three games from San Diego.

AMERICAN LEAGUE

BLUE JAYS 5, INDIANS 4

Adam Lind hit a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning to cap a three-run rally and lift Toronto to a three-game sweep of Cleveland. Lind homered after Cleveland shortstop Luis Valbuena's error on a grounder that could have ended the game.

YANKEES 7, ORIOLES 5

Nick Johnson and Nick Swisher homered, Mark Teixeira hit a two-run double and host New York's bullpen barely held on. The Yankees led 6-1 after seven innings, but Baltimore scored four times against five relievers, including solo homers by Matt Wieters and Nolan Reimold in the ninth.

TWINS 5, TIGERS 4

Denard Span had three singles and a walk, and Minnesota earned its first sweep in nine series this season. Kevin Slowey (4-2) surrendered seven hits and three home runs in 5 2/3 innings, but they were all solo shots — two by Miguel Cabrera.

ATHLETICS 4, RANGERS 1

Eric Patterson homered and Trevor Cahill won in his second start since getting called up from the minors as host Oakland beat Texas to move into first place in the West. Cahill (1-1), a 10-game winner last season as a rookie, allowed only two baserunners past first in five innings.

RED SOX 3, ANGELS 1

John Lackey gave up a run and two hits over seven innings, Adrian Beltre homered and drove in two runs, and David Ortiz hit a solo homer as host Boston handed Los Angeles its sixth straight loss. Brandon Wood hit a solo homer off Lackey.

WHITE SOX 9, ROYALS 2

Freddy Garcia (1-2) gave up 10 hits, but only two runs in six innings, and Andruw Jones and Alex Rios homered to help host Chicago beat Kansas City. Since last beating the Royals on July 25, 2005, Garcia had gone 0-7 in eight starts against them.

RAYS 8, MARINERS 3

Matt Garza became the American League's first five-game winner, giving up two runs and five hits over eight innings, and Evan Longoria had the go-ahead hit in the eighth inning off Cliff Lee as visiting Tampa Bay beat Seattle.

NOTES

Braves: Atlanta right-hander Jair Jurrjens, 0-3 with a 6.38 ERA in five starts, was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a left hamstring strain. The 24-year-old Jurrjens sustained the injury April 29, when he left a start at St. Louis after only one inning.

Mariners: Seattle's main set-up reliever Mark Lowe (1-3 with a 3.48 ERA) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with an inflamed disc in his lower back. Lowe says the back problem first started in the offseason and was aggravated last Sunday when he slipped while fielding a bunt.
