Sci-Tech Day registration on April 3

Advertiser Staff

Biotechnology, renewable energy and digital media are among the subjects to be covered at Sci-Tech Day, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. April 30 at three centers: Honolulu Community College, Leeward Community College and Windward Community College.

The event, which is free and includes bento lunches, is open to students in grades 6-8.

Professionals from the science and technology industry will lend their expertise at the event. There will be four classes in the following areas: life sciences/biotechnology, renewable energy, engineering/product development/application research, and software development/digital media.

Interaction with local professionals provides role models and exposure to additional career options that may be unfamiliar to many students and their families, organizers said.

Information and applications for Sci-Tech Day are available at www.hiscitech.org/institute. Parents must turn in applications on-site (one of the three centers) 9 a.m.-noon April 3. Acceptance into the program is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each regional center is limited to 80 students in grades 6-8.
