Mid-Pacific beats Punahou in ILH baseball, forces playoff

Freshman Marcus Doi’s bases-loaded bloop single to right field scored Tyler Yoshizawa from third base with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning this afternoon to lift Mid-Pacific to a 13-12 victory over Punahou in Interscholastic League of Honolulu baseball action.

The Owls finished the ILH first round at 7-1, tied for first place with Saint Louis (7-1). Saint Louis defeated Damien, 2-0, this afternoon.
MPI and Saint Louis will meet in a one-game playoff at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Ala Wai Field, with the winner clinching the first-round title and automatic state tournament berth.
Punahou (5-2-1) led today’s game 5-0 in the first inning and 11-5 in the fourth, but MPI rallied back both times, eventually taking a 12-11 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Punahou tied it at 12-12 in the top of the seventh.
