A woman charged with fatally stabbing her 88-year-old mother in her Nu'uanu Valley home on Monday told police she did it, a court document said.

"I stabbed my mom. Forgive me, I stabbed her," Claudia Warner-Gonzales, 61, told officers immediately after the attack, a police affidavit said.

Dorothy Stribling was killed in her home on Rosebank Place. Warner-Gonzales is charged with second-degree murder.

Police officers questioned Warner-Gonzales in the living room of her mother's home, the affidavit said. The affidavit did not mention a motive for the attack.

District Judge Colette Garibaldi yesterday ordered a preliminary hearing in the case, although Warner-Gonzales may be indicted by a grand jury in the meantime.

Stribling's son, Sam Warner, who lives in the home, told police he heard a scream and found his sister standing over the victim. He said he removed the 9-inch knife that was lodged in their mother's left shoulder and placed it in the kitchen sink, the affidavit said.

Stribling died at The Queen's Medical Center.

According to an autopsy report from the city Medical Examiner, Stribling bled to death from a stab wound to the chest.
