Big Island police identify woman killed in fall from hotel balcony

Advertiser Staff

Hawaii County police have initiated a murder investigation into the death of a 52-year-old California woman who fell from a second-floor room of a Kailua, Kona, hotel Saturday.

Police today identified the woman as Karen Marie Celaya of San Jose.
An autopsy will be conducted today.
Police continue to hold 58-year-old William Brill, also of San Jose, on suspicion of murder.
Police were dispatched to the hotel at 10:17 p.m. Saturday on a report that a woman had fallen from a balcony. They found Celaya on the rocks below, fatally injured.
Brill was arrested after police learned that guests had told hotel security of a heated argument coming from the room occupied by Brill and Celaya shortly before the woman fell.
