LCC fetes world cultures with performances, food

Partners in Time will perform traditional Balkan and Middle Eastern music today.

Leeward Community College's 17th International Festival is "Celebrating World Cultures" today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The free event features multicultural entertainment and food, ethnic crafts, demonstrations and door prizes.

Performers include slack-key guitarists Dennis and David Kamakahi; West African music and dance by the Sewa Fare; traditional Balkan and Middle Eastern music from Partners in Time, with Sourren Baronian; Okinawan music and dance from Ukwanshin Kabudan Ryukyu Performing Arts Group; and Filipino music from BIBAK.

Other entertainment includes a Chinese lion dance, Asian and Afro-Brazilian martial arts demonstrations, African drumming and belly dancing.

Indian, Egyptian, Thai and Mexican food will be available for purchase.
