New traffic rules begin today for Kapolei Parkway/Kolowaka Drive

Traffic at the Kapolei Parkway/Kolowaka Drive intersection in `Ewa changes today from a two-way stop to a four-way stop control, meaning all vehicles must stop before proceeding through the intersection, city officials said.

Previously, only vehicles on the Kolowaka Drive approaches were required to stop. Starting today, vehicles on both the Kolowaka Drive and the Kapolei Parkway approaches must stop, city officials said.

Warning signs and devices will be in place to reinforce driver awareness that all vehicles must stop, city officials said.

The four-way stop is designed as an interim measure prior to the activation of signals at the Kapolei Parkway/Kolowaka Drive intersection.

The signals are expected to be in place within two to three months and will be installed by Gentry Homes as part of a zoning requirement, city officials said.

The recent opening of the North-South Road — newly renamed Kualaka`i Parkway — and the connection of Kapolei Parkway between Renton Road and Kualaka`i Parkway has created continuous routes between Papipi Road in `Ewa Beach to the H-1 Freeway and to Fort Barrette Road in Kapolei.
