Honolulu Councilman Charles Djou filed his candidacy papers today at the state Office of Elections in Pearl City for the special election that will fill the remaining term of the U.S. House seat vacated by Neil Abercrombie.

Djou is the only major Republican to express interest in the 1st Congressional District seat.

U.S. Rep. Ed Case and state Senate President Colleen Hanabusa, both Democrats, also will run in the May 22 all-mail, winner-take-all election.
Abercrombie resigned on Feb. 28 to focus on his campaign for the Democratic nomination for governor.
