UH softball team sweeps past Troy

Advertiser Staff

Traci Yoshikawa, who belted a solo homer in the second inning, hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the eighth as Hawai'i beat Troy, 2-1, last night to complete a sweep of a softball doubleheader at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

In the opener, the Rainbow Wahine scored 12 runs in the first inning to beat the Trojans, 19-3, in a game shortened to five innings because of the mercy rule. Both teams have 14-8 records.

Winning pitcher Kaia Parnaby (8-3) allowed eight hits and an unearned run while striking out nine and walking none in the nightcap. Losing pitcher Ashlyn Williams gave up four hits and one earned run while striking out 12 and walking three.

In the first game, Yoshikawa had two hits and three RBIs, Rachel Paragas hit a three-run homer and Kelly Majam hit a solo shot for the 'Bows.

Hawai'i sent 16 batters to the plate in the first, using six singles, four walks and three errors to overcome a 1-0 deficit.

UH's Stephanie Ricketts (5-5) allowed five hits and one earned run.
