Siren testing today in parts of Oahu

Advertiser Staff

Residents and businesses in nine areas on Oahu today will hear 20-second siren warnings as the city Department of Emergency Management and state Civil Defense test the outdoor systems from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The affected communities are:

  • Aikahi Park
  • Ala Wai Community Park
  • Kahalu’u
  • Kaneohe Bay
  • Kewalo Basin
  • Makaha
  • Maunalani Heights
  • Nanakuli/Maili
  • Swanzy Beach Park

The tests are needed to ensure that the sirens are operating at full power and providing optimal range.
The state Civil Defense funds the purchase and installation of the sirens. Once installed the sirens are released to the city for monthly testing and emergency activation.
