Cyanotech ousts CEO for undisclosed reason

Advertiser Staff

Big Island-based technology company Cyanotech Corp. has ousted its president and CEO for an undisclosed reason.

The producer of nutritional and health products made from microalgae said one of the company’s directors, David Rosenthal, assumed the role of interim president and CEO on Saturday after the board removed Andrew Jacobson from the top jobs.
A search is underway for a new CEO, the company said in its announcement today.
Jacobson had been president and CEO since May 2008, when he was hired to take over leading the company from founder Gerald Cysewski, who then became Cyanotech’s executive vice president and chief scientific officer.
Rosenthal, 55, has served on Cyanotech’s board since November 2000 and is a member of its audit committee.
Most recently, Rosenthal was chief financial officer of Hickory Farms Inc., a specialty food and gift products provider.
