Punahou junior outfielder Michael Suiter has been named Gatorade Hawaii Baseball Player of the Year.

The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with ESPN RISE, made the announcement today. He is the third Gatorade Hawaii Baseball Player of the Year to be chosen from Punahou School.

Suiter, who is 6 feet 1 and 195 pounds, led the Buffanblu (22-7-1) to their seventh consecutive state title and the 14th championship in school history this season. He batted .479 with a home run, 26 runs scored and 12 stolen bases. A two-time all-tournament selection, Suiter batted .642 and scored five runs during the state tournament, sparking a Punahou offense that outscored its opponents 37-4 in four tournament games.

Suiter has maintained a B average in the classroom, and has volunteered as a youth football and baseball coach as well as on behalf of multiple beach-cleanup initiatives and school-sponsored charitable fundraisers.

The award recognizes "not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field," according to a press release from Gatorade.

Previous winners from Punahou were Kasey Ko (2004-05) and William Blanchette (1987-88).
