University of Hawai'i senior Erin Matsuoka was named the state's Outstanding Woman Golfer by the Hawai'i State Women's Golf Association at the second annual Hawai'i Golf Ho'olaule'a Awards.

The 2006 Punahou graduate was 32nd at last season's Western Athletic Conference Championship. She also reached the semifinals of the State Match Play Championship last summer.

Matsuoka's best collegiate finish came her freshman year when she was 30th at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational. She is one of two seniors on this year's team, with Corie Hou from Australia. Second-year coach Lori Castillo has three freshmen — Kamehameha's Ka'ili Britos, Brigitte Baker from Florida and Laura Polak from Victoria, Canada.

This year's Invitational is March 15 and 16 at Kāne'ohe Klipper. The Rainbow Wahine open their spring season at Stanford's Peg Barnard Invitational Feb. 13.

The Hawai'i State Women's Golf Association will be honoring its "Most Improved Golfers of 2009" at its first General Meeting of the year, Feb. 22 at Waikele Golf Course. The meeting begins with breakfast at 8 a.m., followed by discussion at 9:15 a.m. A two-person "mini tournament" follows at 11:30 a.m. Participants can sign up for both the tournament and meeting, or just one. The sixth annual Hawai'i Foodbank Golf Classic, to feed the hungry in Hawai'i, will be Feb. 12 at Hawai'i Prince Golf Club.
