Advertiser Staff

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources will begin maintenance dredging at Waianae Small Boat Harbor today.

The project is aimed at removing about 2,000 cubic yards of sediment from the harbor’s entrance channel and along the inside of the breakwater. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of February.
Dredging will take place Monday through Friday, except on federal holidays, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
During dredging, boat ramps and about half of the entrance channel will remain open.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has contracted Trade West Construction, Inc. to perform maintenance dredging at Haleiwa and Waianae small boat harbors. The company has completed work at Haleiwa.
Total contract cost is $1,794,000 for both harbors. Funding for the Haleiwa work is provided in part by $700,000 in economic stimulus funds. The rest of the Haleiwa project was funded by $450,000 of regular appropriations. Work at Waianae is being funded by $644,000 of regular appropriations.
