GOP blames unions and Democrats for education problems

Associated Press

HONOLULU — The leader of the Hawaii Republican Party is attacking Democrats and labor unions for standing in the way of education reform.

GOP Chairman Jonah Kaauwai says children should be put first and union bosses last.
He said in a statement Tuesday the Hawaii Republican Party supports Gov. Linda Lingle’s suggestion that the schools superintendent be put under the next governor’s control.
Kaauwai says Democrats are controlled by union money and are unwilling to create solutions.
But some Democratic leaders said after Lingle’s State of the State address that they support her education proposals.
