CFB: 2 added to Kentucky coaching staff

Associated Press

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky has named two new coaches to its football staff.

Coach Joker Phillips announced Friday that Mike Summers has been hired to coach the offensive line and David Turner will coach the defensive line.

Summers is a native of Lexington and a former Kentucky graduate assistant coach who most recently worked at the University of Arkansas. He also has had stints at Louisville, Vanderbilt, Alabama and Mississippi State.

Turner, who guided the Mississippi State defensive line from 2007 to 2009, has 24 years of coaching experience including a previous stint at Kentucky. Phillips says Turner is a strong recruiter who teaches linemen to play physical, something the Kentucky program needs.

Phillips was named head coach earlier this month when Rich Brooks announced his retirement.
