Kaua'i-born Lara Yamada will join veteran Paula Akana to anchor the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts on KITV, beginning this April.

Yamada, a graduate of Kapa'a High on Kaua'i, is returning to the ABC affiliate after reporting and anchoring duties on the Mainland.

"I worked at KITV4 for several years early in my career as a technical director, graphics operator and special projects producer before I launched my career as a reporter," Yamada said in a statement. "I then left the Islands to work as a reporter and anchor in news markets across the country. Now, I feel I'm the luckiest person in the world because I get to take that experience and come home to a family and a place I truly care about."

STARS CALLING FOR HAITI EARTHQUAKE RELIEF

NEW YORK — Oprah Winfrey, Ben Stiller and Paris Hilton are among the celebrities and artists urging support for survivors of the earthquake in Haiti.

Stiller tweeted late Tuesday that "people in Haiti need our help and attention right now." Similar tweets are showing up from the likes of Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Adam Lambert.

Singer Wyclef Jean arrived in Haiti, his native country, yesterday. "I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse," he said in a statement. "The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now."

Jean's publicist said he is focusing on his family, his Haitian charity, Yele, and responding to the disaster.

Rachel Lee, 19, was charged yesterday. She joins five other young men and women charged with burglaries at the homes of celebrities including Orlando Bloom, Rachel Bilson, Ashley Tisdale, Megan Fox and Audrina Patridge. Lee is charged with the burglaries at the Hollywood Hills homes of Hilton, Lohan and Patridge. She was arrested in October in Las Vegas, where she lives.

Lee and Nicholas Prugo, who faces seven counts of first-degree burglary, have been accused by authorities of spearheading the burglaries.

'DEXTER' STAR'S CANCER IN REMISSION

LOS ANGELES — "Dexter" star Michael C. Hall is undergoing treatment for cancer and the disease is in remission, a spokesman said.

"I feel fortunate to have been diagnosed with an imminently treatable and curable condition, and I thank my doctors and nurses for their expertise and care," Hall, 38, said yesterday in a statement.

The actor was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system, which is part of the body's immune system. The disease is considered highly treatable with the potential for full recovery.
