Hilo's BJ Penn will go a long way to defend his UFC world championship.

Penn's next bout is expected to be a world title defense against Frankie Edgar on April 10 at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

It is scheduled to be the main event of UFC 112, which will be the organization's first show in the Middle East region of the world.

JD Penn, BJ's brother and manager, said the contracts have yet to be signed, but UFC president Dana White recently informed the Penn camp of the plan for UFC 112.

"It will be an historic event," JD Penn said.

Penn is the UFC's lightweight world champion and has a professional record of 15-5-1. His last title defense resulted in a convincing fifth-round TKO victory over Diego Sanchez last month in Memphis.

Penn is 12-1-1 as a lightweight (155 pounds), with his only loss in 2002.

Edgar, who is from New Jersey, is 11-1. Among his notable victories are decision wins over Sean Sherk, Hermes Franca and Tyson Griffin.

Edgar's only professional loss was against Nevada's Gray Maynard, who was also being considered as an opponent for Penn.
