Coast Guard and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration officials were working yesterday to free an entangled humpback whale that was reported about three nautical miles off Kailua.

The whale was believed to be the same one that was spotted off the Big Island last week, a NOAA spokeswoman said. It was reported in poor condition and was believed to be entangled in fishing line.
