New Mexico State routs Hawaii women, 73-51

The Rainbow Wahine basketball team dropped its second straight conference road game, losing at New Mexico State, 73-51, yesterday in Las Cruces, N.M.

Hawai'i (6-9, 0-2 Western Athletic Conference) struggled from the field, shooting just 34 percent (18 of 53).

Keisha Kanekoa led the Rainbow Wahine with nine points and Dita Liepkalne added eight.

The Aggies (12-4, 2-0 WAC) pulled away early with a 13-0 run that built a 17-5 lead less than five minutes into the game. New Mexico State hit six 3-pointers and shot 50 percent from the field in the first half for a 42-20 halftime lead.

Jasmine Lowe scored 17 points to lead four Aggies in double figures. Madison Spence scored 15, Danisha Corbett had 14 and Crystal Boyd had 11. New Mexico State shot 43 percent (26 of 60) for the game, made 13 of 29 3-pointers and forced 10 steals.

Hawai'i hosts Idaho (2-12, 0-1 WAC) on Wednesday in its WAC home opener. Hawai'i hosts Nevada (7-9, 0-2 WAC) on Saturday. Prior to that game will be the alumnae game at 5 p.m.
