30-foot surf expected on North Shore

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service predicts high surf on Oahu’s North Shore for late Sunday afternoon, with waves reaching as much as 30 feet by evening.

“It looks like it’s going to be coming up pretty rapidly on Oçahu by mid-day, and it will be reaching warning levels of 25-feet by late afternoon and evening,” said forecaster Ian Morrison. “This looks like a significant swell.”
Morrison said that swell should peak by Sunday night and Monday, and continue through Monday night, gradually decreasing through Tuesday and Tuesday night. A lesser swell will come in on Wednesday night and remain into Thursday.
On Oçahu’s west-facing shore, waves should reach the 12-foot level through Sunday morning, with waves climbing to the 18-foot advisory level by afternoon.
