Kids’ tofu haiku contest under way

Advertiser Staff

The Kapolei Public Library this month is hosting a haiku contest open to all Oçahu children and teens, ages 7 through 17.
Contestants must write a creative haiku about tofu.
A haiku is a Japanese poem with three lines. The first line has five syllables, the second line has seven syllables, and the last line has five syllables.
All entries should include the entrant's full name, age, address, phone number, and school that he or she attends. Entries must be delivered to Kapolei Public Library or postmarked by 5 p.m. Jan. 30. No late entries will be accepted. All entries will be displayed in the library with only the contestant's first name and age.
Two grand prizes — a family package to Wet ‘n' Wild Hawaii water park — will be awarded to the winner of the 7-to-12 age bracket and 13-to-17 age bracket.
This contest is sponsored by Aloha Tofu and the Friends of the Library Kapolei for providing program funding. For more information, call 693-7050.
