Callers are flooding 911 lines and Acting Mayor Kirk Caldwell is urging people to use 911 for emergency calls only.
Theyre flooding 911 with calls asking when the wave will come, how long it will last, Caldwell said. Were asking people not to tie up those lines unless youre in a life-threatening situation.
All city beach parks, golf courses and the Honolulu Zoo will be closed during the tsunami event and all city roads will be closed in the tsunami inundation zone, Caldwell said.
City officials are also using TheBus to organize special evacuation service along the Waianae Coast.
They will say evacuation on the side of TheBus to get people out of the inundation zones, Caldwell said. People can bring carry-on (luggage) and pets are OK as long as theyre on a leash or in a cage.
The evacuation buses along the Waianae Coast will take people to Nanakui High School.
Island-wide, people with special needs can call 454-5006 to be evacuated from inundation zones.
