Puna man being held after using rifle in try for drugs from pharmacy

A 28-year-old Puna man is being held by Hawaii County police after he allegedly demanded drugs from a pharmacy in the Puainako Town Center Tuesday.

Police say Paul Santoro was armed with a loaded 30.06 bolt-action rifle when he entered the pharmacy. They say no shots were fired.
Police say Santoro was detained by employees who disarmed him in a struggle.
Two pharmacy employees were injured. A female allegedly was struck in the back of her head by Santoro and a male sustained lacerations to his hands. Both refused treatment.
Santoro complained of an injury to his arm and was treated at Hilo Medical Center.
Santoro also was arrested for an outstanding bench warrant.
