Oregon State silences UH, 5-0, takes baseball series, 3-1

James Nygren and Matt Boyd combined on a five-hitter to lift No. 10 Oregon State over Hawai‘i, 5-0, tonight to take the series, 3-1 at Les Murakami Stadium.

Boyd (1-0) fired five shut-out innings of relief for the Beavers (3-1). Starter Nygren also pitched four scoreless, but didn't go the required minimum five innings to get credit with the decision.
Sam Spangler (0-1) allowed a run, two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings for the Rainbows (1-3).

The Beavers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Parker Berberet led off with a walk and took third on Carter Bell's double to right-center. Rob Folsom popped out to second, but Tyler Anderson's sacrifice fly to center scored Berberet to give OSU a 1-0 lead, as Bell moved to third.But Spangler got Tyler Smith out on strikes to strand the runner at third.

Oregon State cashed in two walks by Harrison Kuroda and a balk that led to Folsom's two out, two-run single to make it 3-0 in the top of the sixth. Kuroda was pulled for Blair Walters, who struck out pinch hitter Blake Gibbs to end the inning.

The Beavers added two more in the seventh. Keith Jennett singled with one out off Walters and scored on Adalberto Santos' double to right-center. Walters was pulled for Jesse Moore, who struck out Andy Quiring. Santos took thrid on a wild pitch before Stefen Romero walked. Parker Berberet's RBI single made it 5-0 and sent Romero to third before Bell struck out.
