Advertiser Staff

A man died after he was pulled from waters off the Hilton Hawaiian Village yesterday afternoon.

The man, who appeared to be in his 60s, was swimming with a group of people in the surf spot known as "Kaisers" when he got into trouble about 1:40 p.m. People brought the man ashore and began CPR, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department.

Ambulance workers treated the man and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Cheplic said. His identity was not released.

Cheplic said lifeguards brought the man's three companions ahore on a rescue craft. They did not require medical treatment.
