QUICK BITES
Big Isle setting for PBS series pilot

 • Beef, au naturel

Public TV station WTTW of Chicago came hunting for flavor on the Big Island late last month — and they found it at Volcano Island Honey, Mera Pharmaceuticals (home of Kona Sea Salt) and at a local farmers market. WTTW was filming a pilot for a proposed new PBS series, "Flavor Hunting," hosted by chef Craig Priebe.

Priebe searches out exceptional ingredients and prepares them for the show — and always outdoors. An unusual element will be the inclusion of music; besides being a chef, Priebe is a musician and will jam with local musicians wherever he goes. Three local videographers worked with the crew, including Lynn Beittel from Visionary Video, who tipped us on this development. No word on air dates.
