Woodworkers create limited edition book to benefit the forest

Advertiser Staff

The authors and featured artists in the new coffee table book, "Contemporary Hawai'i Woodworkers" have created a limited edition version of the book and, for each of these that is purchased, a koa tree will be planted.

The 224-page oversize book packed with photos is the same one that can be purchased in stores or online. The difference is that 300 copies of the book were flown island to island so that every one of the 35 award-winning artists, and the two authors, could sign them. The book tells the story of contemporary Island wood art.
The limited edition books are numbered and come in a curly koa printed slipcase. The books are only available on the group's Web site, not in stores: ContemporaryHawaiiWoodworkers.com. Over half the books have already sold at $250 apiece (unsigned books are $44.95).
The 300 koa trees will be planted by Hawaiian Legacy Hardwoods, LLC, as part of a 2,700-acre sustainable forestry project on Hawai'i Island (details at HawaiianLegacyHardwoods.com).
