Workers removed rooftop air conditioners and took other final steps today in preparation for the demolition of shops on the corner of Kailua Road and Hinano Way where a new Whole Foods Market will be built.

Landowner Kaneohe Ranch said the the project, which is the third phase of its Kailua Town Center redevelopment, will feature a 32,000-square foot Whole Foods and 8,000 square feet of other retail space. There also will be improvements to parking and pedestrian walkways.
The plans call for construction to be completed in the fall of 2011, with the stores opening soon after.
