Lindsey Vonn won a super-G race yesterday, clinching the discipline title in the final World Cup race before the Vancouver Olympics.

The 25-year-old American timed 1 minute, 1.77 seconds on the Corviglia piste at St. Moritz, Switzerland, for her ninth win of the season and third in super-G.

"It's a big relief to have that finished up before the Olympics," said Vonn, who also won the super-G title last season.

Marie Marchand-Arvier of France and Austria's Andrea Fischbacher, who crashed in Saturday's downhill, tied for second, trailing Vonn by 0.17 seconds.

Marchand-Arvier got her best result since taking silver in super-G behind Vonn at last year's world championships.

With the victory, Vonn extended her lead in the overall standings to 137 points over Maria Riesch of Germany, who finished 11th yesterday.

LEAFS ACQUIRE PHANEUF, GIGUERE

The Toronto Maple Leafs shook up their struggling club, acquiring defenseman Dion Phaneuf from the Calgary Flames in a seven-player deal yesterday and swapping goalies with Anaheim to get J.S. Giguere.

Along with Phaneuf, Toronto received Keith Aulie and Fredrik Sjostrom from Calgary in exchange for Ian White, Matt Stajan, Nick Hagman and Jamal Mayers.

The Maple Leafs also traded goalie Vesa Toskala and Jason Blake to Anaheim for Giguere.

Toronto is winless in its last six games and is sitting in a tie with Carolina for last in the Eastern Conference.

AUSTRIA'S HERBST WINS CUP SLALOM

Reinfried Herbst won a men's World Cup slalom, leading an Austrian 1-2 finish at Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.

Herbst finished the course in a combined time of 1 minute, 45.35 seconds yesterday to beat teammate Marcel Hirscher by 0.40.

It was Herbst's second victory of the week after winning in Schladming, Austria, on Tuesday, and his fourth of the season.

Julien Lizeroux of France was 0.53 back in third. Ted Ligety of the United States, who won a giant slalom here Friday, finished fourth but was later disqualified.

Benjamin Raich of Austria finished sixth and extended his lead in the overall standings over Switzerland's Carlo Janka.

USA'S RAHLVES DISLOCATES HIP

U.S. Olympic freestyle skier Daron Rahlves dislocated his right hip after a spill in his opening skicross race yesterday at the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colo.

The injury is a setback as Rahlves prepares to compete in Vancouver, but a doctor who checked him out at the scene was optimistic after the crash that resulted in the 36-year-old's fourth hip dislocation.

"People who have multiple hip dislocations, the tissues get so loose and go in and out and it doesn't cause so much damage," said Dr. Kevin Stone, who looked in on Rahlves after the wreck. "Hopefully, that's the situation here and hopefully he can come back quickly."

In his opening race, Rahlves lost his balance while going over a series of small bumps midway down the mountain and went flying off the course.

FAGAN WINS DICK WEBER OPEN

Mike Fagan defeated PBA Hall of Famer and all-time win leader Walter Ray Williams Jr. for his first individual Tour title in the PBA Dick Weber Open yesterday in Fountain Valley, Calif.

Fagan, of Patchogue, N.Y., defeated Williams, 241-213, in the championship match to earn the $25,000 first prize.

Last year, Fagan finished second in the Dick Weber Open after losing to another bowling great, Hall of Famer Norm Duke, 278-168, in the championship match.

"I think I learned a lot from that experience last year," the 29-year-old Fagan said. "The key for me was just to bowl the way I know I can and the results will take care of themselves."

Fagan's only other Tour title was the PBA Exempt Doubles Classic with partner Danny Wiseman in the 2007-08 season.
