Rainbow Wahine clinch WAC regular-season softball title

The University of Hawai`i softball team defeated Fresno State, 5-0, to clinch the he Western Athletic Conference regular season title in front of a capacity crowd at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium tonight.

Stephanie Ricketts pitched a two-hit shutout, and the Rainbows hit three homers.

It was the third WAC regular season crown for Hawai`i (40-11, 19-0 WAC), who previously won in 2003 and 2007.

Ricketts (21-6, 12-0 WAC) walked two and struck out three facing just 26 batters and did not allow a runner past second base. It was her fifth shutout of the season and second in a row after last week's perfect game at Nevada.

Jenna Rodriguez and Melissa Gonzalez hit two-run homers and Katie Grimes had a solo shot for the Rainbow Wahine.
