Police said a 69-year-old Waipahu man was not in a crosswalk when he was hit by a sport utility vehicle on Fort Weaver Road on Tuesday night.

The man suffered injuries to his head and lower extremities and was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.

The accident was reported at 7:41 p.m. near Hawaii Medical Center West.

Police said the man stepped into the path of the SUV, which was driven by a 49-year-old 'Ewa Beach man.
