On April 29, 30 years to the day after a young leukemia patient named Chris was granted his wish to be a police officer for a day, Make-A-Wish Foundation representatives around the globe will celebrate the first-ever World Wish Day, in honor of the day that sparked a global wish-granting movement.

To celebrate World Wish Day, Make-A-Wish, Hawaii will grant 13-year-old Makanalani Konanui's wish to go to Disney World with her family. Accompanying Makana, who is fighting acute myelocytic leukemia, will be her parents, Fred and Cheryl Konanui, and her four sisters.

"Through the sponsorship of Jewelers For Children, we are granting Makana's wish to highlight the hope, strength and joy that the Make-A-Wish Foundation brings to children with life-threatening medical conditions every day," said Lyn Brown, Make-A-Wish, Hawaii Executive Director. "We encourage people to join in the celebration and help us reach every eligible wish child in Hawaii."

"I express my great appreciation to and pride in all the Hawaii jewelers and their customers who contribute to Jewelers For Children and make this grant possible," said Michael Parker, Hawaii Jewelers Association President.

"Jewelers for Children and its members have made it possible for us to bring this kind of aloha to wish kids for the past ten years. Their support has made a significant difference in the lives of the courageous kids we serve," Brown added.
