Rescue crews identified a hiker missing since Thursday as Ryan Soper, 26, from Orem, Utah.

Soper went missing in Wailua Valley. He is described as 5-foot, 10-inches and weighs about 240 pounds, with short blond hair, blue eyes, a fair complexion and a large build, according to Kauai officials.

He was last seen wearing a black Under Armor shirt with long sleeves and a pair of black-and-white board shorts.

Anyone with information about Soper is asked to called Police Dispatch at 241-1711 or Crime Stoppers, 241-1887.

County spokeswoman Mary Daubert said rescue specialists from the Lihue fire station, firefighters from the Koloa and Waimea stations, personnel from the state Department of Land and Natural Resources and a canine search team split into two groups to resume the search yesterday.

One team searched the upper end of the valley while the other combed the area above Wailua Falls in former sugar cane land.
