Coast Guardsman suffers critical injuries in moped crash

A 20-year-old man was critically injured last night in a moped crash on Nimitz Highway.
Police said the man was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard.
The crash took place about 11:25 at the intersection of Nimitz and Waiakamilo Road.
Police say the man was headed west and had just crossed the intersection when he lost control of his moped and hit the curb.
The man, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to The Queens Medical Center in criticial condition.
Police say alcohol might have been a factor in the crash. They have not yet determined if speed or drugs were involved.
