Senate panel to consider University of Hawaii regent nominees

Associated Press

HONOLULU — The state Senate Committee on Higher Education is expecting to consider the nominations of three new members to the University of Hawaii Board of Regents.

Gov. Linda Lingle has nominated Matthew Williams for a term that will expire in mid-2012. She also has selected Chuck Gee and Ronald Montgomery for terms that are to end in mid-2015.

If confirmed by the full Senate, they would join the board that oversees the 10-campus system.

Committee Chairwoman Jill Tokuda of Kaneohe and Kailua says she wishes Lingle would have made one of her nominations a woman.

Only one woman currently sits on the 15-member regents board.

The hearing is set for Tuesday at 1:15 p.m. in the state Capitol.
