Man dies of apparent drowning after boat capsizes in Kaneohe Bay

Advertiser Staff

A 46-year-old man apparently drowned early Sunday while fishing in Kaneohe Bay when the boat he was in capsized, police said.

Two other men in the boat were uninjured.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office identified the victim yesterday as Henry Hoapili, Jr., of Kane'ohe.

Police said the boat capsized about a mile off shore just after midnight.

The men swam back to shore, and at some point the 46-year-old got into trouble. Police said the victim apparently drowned.

An unattended death case has been opened by police, pending the results of an autopsy.
