Legislators to discuss violence, public housing curfew at briefing

Associated Press

Two state House committees plan to meet on Monday to discuss a round of violence at the Kalihi Valley Homes housing project in Honolulu.

A temporary but mandatory 10 p.m. curfew went into effect on Thursday after a shooting there a week ago that left two people wounded, one of them seriously.

A similar curfew will soon start at another housing project, Kuhio Park Terrace.

The curfews were instituted by the Hawaii Public Housing Authority.

Authorities say rival gangs are causing some of the havoc.

The House committees on housing and human services will hold their joint hearing on Monday at 5:45 p.m., at the Kalihi Valley Homes Community Hall.
