Killed were Chief Warrant Officer Mathew C. Heffelfinger, 29, of Kimberly, Idaho, and Chief Warrant Officer Earl R. Scott III, 24, of Jacksonville, Fla.

Heffelfinger and Scott died of injuries suffered when their OH-58D Kiowa, a small reconnaissance/attack helicopter, crashed in Tikrit, Iraq, the Army said. The military released no details.

The aviators were assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment, 25th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.

Heffelfinger joined the Army in April 2000. He arrived at Schofield Barracks in December 2007 and served as a Kiowa helicopter pilot.

Scott joined the Army in March 2006 and came to Schofield in May 2008, also serving as a Kiowa pilot.

In May, two soldiers from the same unit were killed when their OH-58D crashed at Wheeler Army Airfield on Oahu.
