NextDoor in Chinatown gets the party started

The weeklong GiRL FeST kicks off tonight at 8 at NextDoor with taiko drumming, cabaret and comedy performances, the Derby Girls from Hawai'i and Los Angeles, DJs and dancing until 2 a.m. to support the prevention of violence against women.

Tonight's event is for the 21 and older crowd, with a sliding cover from $7 to $25, depending on what you can pay.

More events start earlier:

• HerStory Theater Workshop takes place from noon to 3 p.m. today at La Pietra School Drama Room (free for all ages).

• The House Dancing Workshop is at Diverse Art Center ($5 for the kids' workshop at 1 p.m. or the adults' workshop at 2:30 p.m.).

• Roller Girls Down and Derby: Hawai'i vs. Los Angeles is at Kamilo'iki Park in Hawai'i Kai from 4 to 6 p.m. (free for all ages).
