Lawn & Garden Fair and Hawaiian Tree Give-away to celebrate Arbor Day

On November 7th 9am-2pm 2009 Maui Nui Botanical Gardens (MNBG) & Maui Association of Landscape Professionals (MALP) will present the annual Arbor Day Fair. 1,000 Hawaiian trees will be given-away, one tree per person until they are gone. There will be plant sales, lectures, demonstrations, green industry representatives, and great food. This is an exciting must attend event full of educational activities and demonstrations.

At 12:15 the Maui Invasive Species Committee (MISC) will be presenting their 2009 Mālama i ka 'Āina Award to a landscape professional that promotes and aids in the use of non-invasive plants on Maui.

In addition to MNBG & MALP this event is sponsored by DLNR Kaulunani Program, the Maui County Department of Water Supply, Maui County Farm Bureau, and the Maui Electric Company.

Experts will be available to answer landscape, gardening, and tree questions. There will be booths representing the landscape industry, tree friendly organizations and non-profits to answer questions and provide demonstrations on landscape equipment & maintenance, fertilization, pests, diseases and soil testing. This event strives to support community education, beautification, and how to plant the right tree in the right place.

Date: Saturday, November 7, 2009

Time: 9 am-2 pm

Location: Maui Nui Botanical Gardens, 150 Kanaloa Ave., Kahului. Across the street from the War Memorial Football Stadium.

Free admission and parking at the War Memorial Stadium.

*"What's Bugging you?" Insect and plant pest and diseases – Diagnosis and treatment ongoing at the booth with Norman Nagata - Plant Pathologist, and Mach Fukada - Entomologist. Bring a sealed sample.

*Soil pH testing and education ongoing at the Maui Community College booth. Bring a sample of soil for testing.

Tree planting, pruning, and selection information at the Maui Nui Botanical Garden Plant Information booth by the Free Hawaiian Tree Give-away.
