The closure of Gartley Hall has prompted the University of Hawaii-Manoa to rent office space in Downtown Honolulu.

Starting next month, the university will pay $20,000 per month to lease some 7,200 square feet of space at the Oceanit Center on Fort Street Mall. The space will be used for the offices of Outreach College.

The college is being moved off campus to make room for the Department of Psychology. The department lost its offices in September when the 88-year-old Gartley Hall was closed because of major structural damage.

Kathy Cutshaw, UH-Manoa vice chancellor for administration, said that with no space available someone had to move off campus.
