First Thursdays poetry slam at NextDoor in Chinatown this week

Advertiser staff

First Thursdays is taking it back to Chinatown as it temporarily relocates to Next Door on Thursday, Oct. 1.
Now in its seventh official season, HawaiiSlam’s First Thursdays originally got its start in Chinatown in 2003.  This month’s show is an official qualifier. The top two poets will qualify for the HawaiiSlam Finals in April 2010.
Two Warriors and Family Dinner will make special appearances for this show.
Two Warriors is a New-York based poetry duo that has been performing since 2001.
Family Dinner, with Reggie Padilla and Joel Spiral, combines hip-hop, klezmer, Dixieland, funk and jazz with an Island vibe. The band includes a horn section (including tuba) and an çukelele-playing emcee.
The night will be hosted by Kealoha, and will feature live painters, massages in the lounge and a guest DJ.
Admission is $3 before 8:30 p.m. and $5 after. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the show starts at 8:30 p.m. at Next Door, 43 N. Hotel St.
