Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific seeking Hawaii artists for annual fundraiser

Advertiser Staff

HONOLULU – Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific is searching for local artists that would like to be a part of this year’s 10th annual “Art from the Heart” fundraiser on Nov. 4 at REHAB. The event is an art sale and exhibition for REHAB’s Louis Vuitton Creative Arts program, which has provided art therapy to more than 700 patients through more than 7,000 painting sessions at the only acute-care rehabilitation hospital in the Pacific.

For the past 15 years REHAB has offered free art classes to patients and former patients. The Art from the Heart sale helps offset the costs associated with the program, including professional art instructors, canvas, paints, brushes and other supplies. Artwork ranges in price from $20 to $2,500 for each unique piece. Last year, Hawaii artists including Mamoru Sato, Peggy Chun, Jodi Endicott, Satoru Abe, Mark Brown, Deborah Nehmad and Mary Philpotts supported the fundraiser by contributing 50 percent of the sale price of their art to REHAB.

“We are thrilled to showcase the wide range of artwork from our patient artists as well as various artists in the community,” said Ko Miyataki, REHAB Foundation president. “This program provides a creative venue for REHAB’s patients to heal physically and emotionally, and allows individuals with disabilities to flourish by discovering or refining their given talents.”

Interested community artists can contact Louis Vuitton Creative Arts Program Coordinator Tara Sullivan at tsullivan@rehabhospital.org or at 566-3790, or visit www.rehabhospital.org for more information.

REHAB is the only acute care medical rehabilitation organization in Hawaii and the Pacific Rim, serving nearly 7,500 patients each year. Since 1953, REHAB has been dedicated to providing comprehensive rehabilitation for individuals as they recover from strokes, brain injury, spinal cord injury, orthopedic injuries, sports injuries and complex surgeries.
