Foodland chairman and CEO Jenai Wall presented Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association executive director Keith Amemiya with a check for $76,841.91 this morning, money that will go toward the HHSAA's "SOS" (Save Our Sports) campaign to assist public school hit by recent budget cuts.

The Foodland money was raised from Aug. 17 through Aug. 31 as customers made donations at checkout stands, with Foodland matching their donations dollar-for-dollar. Foodland later decided to match the customer donations two-to-one.

Recent state budget cuts have resulted in public school athletic departments operating with less than 64 percent of their 2009-2010 allocations. The SOS campaign has raised over $800,000 in less than seven weeks.
