NFL: Keeping watch on WR Crabtree

By Daniel Brown
San Jose Mercury News

GLENDALE, Ariz. — As the San Francisco 49ers kicked off the 2009 season Sunday, there was another report that Michael Crabtree wouldn’t hit the field until 2010.

ESPN, citing multiple anonymous sources, echoed previous reports saying the 49ers’ first-round pick was prepared to sit out this season and re-enter the draft next spring.
Reporter Adam Schefter wrote: “The 49ers still want Crabtree, they still think he can make an impact, it’s just that no one in the organization can now envision a way in which it would happen.”
Jay Glazer of Fox said on the air that there are mixed indications surrounding the No. 10 pick out of Texas Tech. Glazer said that some believe Crabtree is getting himself ready to play.
The 49ers’ policy is not to comment on media reports. Coach Mike Singletary opened a news conference last week saying he would not take questions regarding Crabtree.
